Meet Demetria Cameron with American Heart Association on Tricks of The Trade with Stephanie Chavez. In this episode, Demetria shares her concern for educating the public about cardiac events, through participation in exhibition events all over the nation! It’s a BIG job, with many moving parts. She’s juggling teams focused on different things, and as you’ll hear, she has to get creative to keep up with what goes where over and over again. All those moving parts come in from one destination and leave for another routinely, and no one wants to travel and set up only to find they are working with the wrong equipment or missing an important part.
Morphing, changing, and adjusting the presence to fit each locale is top priority to attract the most attendees to the booth, and that happens 20 times each year! Their biggest struggle? People hear ‘American Heart Association’ and assume they are focused on one of their many familiar campaigns, such as Go Red For Women or others. Demetria has learned to change the face of the design, and pursue sponsorship that is aligned with the message and the mission. She’s found they actually doubled the leads with the right alignment!
Demetria shares her simple techniques for their master calendar, and provides a checklist you can download here.
People need to know WHO is going to assist them in the event of a cardiac incident. Demetria urges businesses to have people trained for this at every company. You need CPR training, because it might just be you who is called upon. She shares her story of survival when she went so someone’s aid, and was grateful she understood the difference between breathing and gasping.
