As a designer, David focuses on what is important to the client, what challenges they think they are having, and then he provides an objective eye to point out what the client may not see. He then works with them on how to enhance what they have.
David says that clients tell him how they are feeling in their space and then works with them to develop the design which evokes feelings the client desires.
The focus for workspaces is on the people who work in that office every day, and the function they can provide for that business, as their clients are the ones that benefit. The essence of what the business wants is combined with practicality of function.
Regarding color schemes for businesses, seven out of ten clients have color selections that are representative of what they have at home. People want to be as comfortable at the office as possible. David also looks at the entire office to holistically design it to evoke a desired feeling throughout and create a story in the space. The craziest thing he has ever installed? A magnet ceiling for a tech company so they could hang things from above!
David keeps in touch with his clients to let them know he values them as a person first. He builds his relationships with his clients based upon respect for who they are. He likes to send gifts to his clients to let them know he is thinking about them. It’s important to enhance the client’s experience and help them feel like they matter.
Being a good partner with vendors and suppliers is just as important as being a good partner with clients. For that reason, he prefers to send texts rather than make phone calls to respect his client’s time so that they aren’t easily interrupted.
