Go back and read that title again. No, it’s not what you expect of a title, but for the purposes of expediency and short attention spans and character limits and SEO – it had to be hashtagged and turned into a funny tweetable smashup. It is also to prove the point of this entire article that if you try hard enough and get creative you can fit an entire workout into your schedule every day. So let’s get to the meat (or kale steak for you vegans out there) of this subject on how to turn a 3 course dinner of a workout into a snack sized meal of a workout with all the same health and fat burning goodness.
A starting point without a destination and a map equals a wrong turn – a scary movie that you don’t want to star in. Pick a REALISTIC goal for weight loss, fat loss, muscle gain, clothing size, health, lifestyle, or whatever it is you desire and are willing to improve.
The starting point is the easy thing, because you are looking at it every day, and until you own it as such you can never get started. So own it, measure it, and get ready to leave it behind. The destination can be tough because there are many destinations and the further out one lays it will seem as unrealistic as a picture on a postcard. Still, pick that far off destination and draw yourself into that picture as you would want to see yourself.
The only thing left is how to get there, and the best way to set up a great trip is to find a travel agent and a tour guide (played by a doctor and a trainer/health coach in this case). Sure, you can read some articles or books and watch some videos, and “DIY” just like a house project or a car project. Then, you call an expert later for a really, really big repair bill – OR you can be smart and not destroy your body while trying to do a “self improvement project.” If you do decide to go it alone, then make sure you go with small gradual improvements that can be done daily and with ease.
The secret to success is small successes and the secret to failure is small failures, so set yourself up for small successes every day and a postcard picture of your new self in a few days.
You know all that stuff that you never get done because it never gets written into your schedule? WRITE YOUR HEALTH INTO YOUR SCHEDULE or illness will schedule in unplanned meetings for you during the year when you least need it or can least afford it. Write it so you will do it and post it so you must commit to it. Inspiration and motivation are all well and good, but determination gets the job done when nothing else is there. Writing things into your schedule is the number one way to determine what will and what will not get done on a daily basis. Success is measured and more importantly it is written down both before it happens and after it is achieved.
FIT IT IN!!! People watch on average 4 hours of TV a day and easily that much time on social media (please don’t send me any of those game requests). 24 minutes is only 1% of your day and less time than the commercial breaks for a 1 hour TV show. Yes, you can fit it in and yes I know you use a DVR so don’t fast forward for once and use those commercial breaks to your advantage.
“Hope” sits on its fat unhealthy butt waiting for a miracle pill that will “change” everything without having to do anything. Faith gets up and earns the improvements that will last a lifetime, with daily dedication and devotion. “Hope” looks for a miracle pill and “change” ends in a hospital bed due to the side effects (yeah all that fast talk at the end of the commercial). Have faith, do the work!
Fitting this into your day will get easier and easier, unlike fitting into those “skinny pants” hiding in the back of the closet that you need to toss out with all the fat clothes for some new trendy better fitting clothes.
- Pick your Goals. Not that big impossible dream; the small, daily goal staring you in the face every morning and night. That little 1% thing you can and should do but don’t do because it is so easy not to. These are the goals that will make that dream easily possible.
- Make your Commitment. WRITE IT IN YOUR SCHEDULE and never delete it, only move it and never remove it. Determination is the only thing left when motivation is gone and inspiration has disappeared.
- Fit It In. There are always 24 minutes of extra time (that’s 1% of your day) and there is always time to eat. Fit it in where you can, when you can, and how you can. If it doesn’t fit then you mustaquit.
