I take quite a bit of time analyzing the landscape local family business operates in today, and across the board, believe that we associate the word ‘confidence’ 3 different ways.
- Big picture confidence
- Next step confidence
- Marketplace confidence
I think they’re self explanatory, and will spare you the ‘tutorial’ emails most are still sending today. What I want you to know and what I hope makes you smile, is that confidence is actually a skill, and it can be learned. For some, it may come more natural than others, but largely, the only thing that can build confidence, grow confidence, increase confidence, and sustain a level of confidence, is training yourself to be familiar with your own brand – and then becoming familiar with the language of your business. Anything less than that is not confidence, it’s arrogance.
Arrogance assumes. Confidence comes when you walk it out, do your due diligence and BECOME who you ‘know in your knower’ you truly ARE. If your knees aren’t knocking, you’re not moving forward. Confidence doesn’t mean you’ll never have question marks or doubt yourself or even freak completely out. Confidence only comes when you courageously put yourself out there, allow yourself to get beat up a little (or aLOT, lol!) and say it AGAIN. Go AGAIN. Call AGAIN.
See, what most people struggle with is how to SAY it – to themselves, to others, and how to believe they are what they have only imagined. You can have what you say, but you won’t say what you can’t see. For that reason, the 3 Key Confidence Benchmarks I listed above are INTEGRAL to a strong, influential brand. Many think the persona they have imagined is arrogance – but it’s actually a great, big HINT from your Creator.
Here’s the nutshell: If you can see the big picture of what your extremely successful brand can accomplish, and you’re sick of feeling like it’s too far away, you’ll know what the next step IS and WHEN to take it. That’s Big Picture Confidence and Next Step Confidence. I know too many people who hang out THERE waaaay tooo long. Some even call it ‘waiting on the Lord’ to open doors! I got news for ya, you’re not guaranteed your next breath.
Without Marketplace Confidence, it’s as far as you’ll get. We need to quit making excuses for getting our work done here. One day, we’ll answer for what we were bold enough to accomplish or too scared to do. OBBM readers are not employees, you are business owners, and that means YOU set the standards, create the vision, and build it out. You’re not waiting on ANYONE but YOU – and the whole world is groaning for you to do it!
